Breaking News: Recently Fired Somerville Police Officer Allegedly Stole Another Police Officer’s Gun, Caught on Tape

A recently fired Somerville Police officer was arrested and is presently in lock up at the Somerville police station awaiting arraignment after he was allegedly caught stealing another police officer’s firearm in the Somerville Police Station locker room. 

Allegedly a search warrant was issued to search the former police officer’s home where the stolen weapon was discovered. 

Allegedly the suspect was also caught on Somerville Police surveillance video wiping his fingerprints off the locker and leavening the scene.

Moveable Furniture’ to be Installed at Kenney Park

  

 

Beginning on Friday, Aug. 21, the City will pilot a “moveable furniture” project in Kenney Park in Davis Sq. The park, which was recently renovated, will now include additional, brightly colored café tables and chairs to enhance the public plaza. Recent planning studies and observations of open space have shown that comfort plays a large role in whether residents remain in and enjoy public places, and moveable furniture is one way to allow park-goers to move and arrange seating as desired. Please remember that spray heads and public fountains are on in the summer from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m and run on timers, usually for four hour cycles. In between cycles the system shuts off completely for 10 to 30 minutes. Please be patient during the rest period and don’t hit the activate buttons. Using excessive force can break the activators.

Row It Forward at Assembly Row Somerville 

  

Row It Forward is back again at Assembly Row, and the two-week contest will provide more than $35,000 to local nonprofits. Dollars spent at Assembly Row are turned into points, with shoppers (and diners) directing them to a chosen nonprofit. The nonprofit with the most points on Aug. 23 will receive a $20,000 grant, courtesy of Assembly Row. Last Hope K9 Rescue was the top beneficiary last year. More than 90 nonprofits are participating this year.

SOMERVILLE (August 14, 2015)- LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Boston announced today their search for a new Master Model Builder. The former Master Model Builder, Ian Coffey, stepped down to pursue another career opportunity in late July after winning his position at the Brick Factor event held in January 2014. The Master Model Builder is responsible for all the LEGO® builds in the attraction including updating MINILAND®, teaching the Master Builder Academy workshops, conducting media interviews and representing LEGOLAND Discovery Center Boston at events.

We are striving raise $50,000 to do building renovations that would soundproof the performance hall, allowing us to bring a wider variety of musical and theatrical events to our space. As part of this fundraising effort, we are hosting a string of benefit concerts, the second of which is on Friday, August 28th from 7:30pm-10pm and will feature the unique music of Ian Ethan Case and his 18-string acoustic double-neck guitar and the Afrobeat/funk band Opposite People. Tickets are $12 in advance/$10 for students or $15/$12 at the door. If you can’t make the concert but would like to donate, there are options for that on the Armory website or email info@artsatthearmory.org.

Building Somerville’s Police Marine Unit

On Wednesday Commander Maryanne Richarson, director of Shore Side services for Mass Maritime visited Somerville as part of the Somerville Police departments ongoing collaboration with Mass Maritime to develop a marine unit for the police department.
