Building Somerville’s Police Marine Unit

On Wednesday Commander Maryanne Richarson, director of Shore Side services for Mass Maritime visited Somerville as part of the Somerville Police departments ongoing collaboration with Mass Maritime to develop a marine unit for the police department. Senior Paul Hennebury has been working under the direction of Sgt Kiely and Captain Cotter this summer on this initiative. 

Working with our regional partners and a top tier maritime Academy, the police will be anle to provide a higher level of emergency services and community policing with an emphasis of homeland security for both the city and region.

Monday’s tour of Somerville included a tour of the Winter Hill Yacht Club that is located on Foley Street in Somerville which will be a mooring site for one of the new marine unit vessels for Somerville Police Department.
