Somerville’s Cobble Hill Plaza Getting Ready for Demo
According to sources the Cobble Hill Plaza a strip mall located at 102 Washington Street in Somerville is about the soon be closed.
The strip mall is being vacated to begin demolition stages to make room for 150 market rate units five stores high.
Some businesses have already moved out of the mall and the last standing units in the mall are Andrea’s Pizza and Tedeschi Food Shop Market.
Demolition of the site is scheduled for sometime in August.

5th Annual Great Urban Campout in Somerville

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and the Somerville Recreation Department invite all interested Somerville residents to spend a night camping in Lincoln Park. The 5th annual Great Urban Campout will be held from Friday, July 25 until Saturday, July 26 in Lincoln Park, behind the Albert F. Argenziano School at Lincoln Park (290 Washington Street). Join neighbors for S’mores over the campfire, games and stories, a performance by the Second Line Social Aid and Pleasure Society Brass Band, and plenty of coffee/donuts for anyone who makes it until the next morning. Set up tents any time after 12 p.m. on Friday. Come for the evening or camp overnight. Attendees are asked to bring food to grill and a dish to pass. Albion Playground to Reopen 6.19.14

With recent renovations to the site complete, Albion Playground will reopen to the public at 8 a.m. Thursday, June 19. Renovations to the playground included: a new concrete retaining wall at the grass slope; reducing the grades at the steep portions of the grass hill; new sod; repairs to the irrigation and drainage system; two new trees; tree and shrub pruning; and a new sealcoat surface at the water spray area.

His role at the Highway Department is to provide street and sidewalk maintenance services to the residents of Somerville and the general public so that streets and sidewalks are clean, safe and in satisfactory condition. Steve does his job and does it well and he’s always a gentleman with a friendly smile to always brighten your day!
Steve is also a big advocate to a very important and wonderful cause here in the city and that is “Autism Awareness!” Steve always put 110% into everything he does to make sure that it’s always done correctly and efficiently.

Are Somerville Restaurants in Compliance to the Current Hood Cleaning Laws?

With all the new restaurants popping up in and around the city, who is enforcing the city’s restaurant codes, laws and keeping tract of hood cleaning expiration dates of local restaurants that protect the public from tragedy occurring?
Who takes the responsibility if a grease fire occurs in a restaurant hood due to expired maintence stickers and/or an overdue hood cleaning?
Would the city be on the hook? Or would the liability fall on the fire department, the restaurant owner, the landlord or the insurance company? The answer would be all of the above unless the restaurant owner was properly notified and/or given a cease work order due to non compliance from an inspector or the local fire department.
