Somerville First Source Jobs Initiative to hold its first Job Fair

The Somerville First Source Jobs Initiative officially announced today its first Job Fair to help connect Somerville residents to local jobs. The First Source Job Fair will be held on Tuesday, June 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the second floor of the Tufts Administration Building (167
Holland St., Somerville). This Job Fair is the first of two this year to be offered through a partnership between the Somerville Community Corporation (SCC), The Career Place (TCP), and the City of Somerville, with space generously offered and coordinated by SCALE.

“Our core orienting value is making Somerville an exceptional place to live, work, play and raise a family, but making that a reality for every resident in our community begins with ‘work,’” said Mayor Curtatone. “Through this partnership with SCC and The Career Place, we are working to give our local workers every advantage, preparing them for the workforce and connecting them with good local jobs that make living here, playing here and raising a family all possible. This innovative model aims to ensure that as Somerville grows, so do our residents in the workforce, as well as our local businesses that can rely on quality local workers.”

Food service, health, retail, and security are some of the industries represented in the June 24 Job Fair. “We made an effort to focus on employers within the industries we have found to be of most interest to job seekers in Somerville. This allows us to give our community the opportunity to get the jobs they are looking for,” said Danny LeBlanc, CEO of the Somerville Community Corporation. “The employers participating in this Job Fair are looking to fill seasonal, part-time, and full-time positions at their Somerville locations”, LeBlanc added.

The First Source Jobs Initiative is a collaborative effort involving the City of Somerville, SCC and TCP to match Somerville residents with over 30,000 jobs expected to become available in the City by 2030. As part of this effort, the First Source Jobs Initiative is developing a Talent Bank with information on job seekers in Somerville, as well as establishing relationships with local employers so First Source participants can learn about, and successfully obtain, jobs available in the City.
