After a week long trial and the jury deliberating since last Friday, on Monday afternoon, Michael Barnett, 32, of Somerville has been found guilty of first degree murder by a jury of twelve in the November 22, 2009 death of Christopher Souza of Somerville.

Lowell Street Community Meeting – community note

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and Ward 5 Alderman Mark Niedergang invite all community members to a public meeting on Wednesday, June 25 to discuss information and plans for the Lowell Street corridor from Highland Avenue to Medford Street, and to discuss possible plans to encourage safety. The meeting will be held in the Visiting Nurses Association’s community room on Lowell Street beginning at 6 p.m. The meeting is hosted by the Mayor’s Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development, Traffic & Parking, and the Department of Public Works. Martins Arrest

On 6/8/2014 while assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division I was summoned to the police station to meet a Cambridge Detective. He told me that he was investigating a robbery that
occurred on 6/8/2014 at 03:39 in Cambridge. The victim reported that his keys, and wallet containing credit cards and his cell phone were taken in the robbery. The suspect was arrested by Somerville P.D. based on probable cause. He was transferred to Cambridge Police.

Perez-Melgar Arrest

While in marked unit 661, I was dispatched to Puritan Road for a Breaking and Entering of a Motor Vehicle. Dispatch informed all responding units that the suspect was in the custody of a good Samaritan and that the situation was slowly escalating. Marked unit 663 (Off. Pasqualino) and plain clothes Detective Sgt. Chaille responded as back-up.
