Real Life Somerville Police Stories

Juvenile Arrest

On the afternoon of Tuesday, June 17, 2014 I was assigned to marked unit E-3. At approximately 14:00 hrs, I was dispatched along with E-2 ( Officer
Anderson ), R-1 ( Officer Ubeda ) and E-4 ( Officer Canty ) to the corner of Highland Avenue and Vinal Avenue, for a report of a man with a knife. Upon arrival, we were directed by a white male, who did not want to be involved, state that a Spanish male wearing a blue shirt was carrying a knife. He then pointed us in the direction of the Somerville High School concourse.

The male in question was located by Officer Ubeda, behind a white maintenance truck parked in the rear of the lot. For Officer safety reasons he was placed in to handcuffs. After searching the area, a knife was located 10-15 feet from the individual. After re-interviewing the white male from earlier, it turns out that he never saw a knife. He was going off what he heard people saying from his window. It was at this point, the high school resource officer had come over to assist. It was determined that we could not place the knife with the Spanish male, but were able to charge him with tress passing on school property.
