What’s Happening Celebrate Summer in Somerville


Summer is getting revved up with the City of Somerville’s Family Fun Day and Fireworks celebration at Trum Field!
Saturday, June 28th, from 12:00-5:00pm: Family Fun Day Rain date: June 29th

Family Fun Day will feature free, family-friendly programming including a community BBQ, children’s activities, face painting, Curious Creatures exhibit, pony rides, music, and more.
Thursday, July 3rd, at 6:00pm: Independence Day Celebration; Approx. 9:15pm: Fireworks Rain date: July 10th.
Live entertainment for Somerville’s Independence Day celebration at Trum Field will include performances by the Somerville Sunsetters, Disco-Funk band Booty Vortex, USO Metropolitan new York Performers, and the U.S. Navy Band Northeast Pops Ensemble beginning at 6pm, leading up to a 30-minute fireworks display at approximately 9:15pm. (In case of rain, the USO Metropolitan New York Performers and the U.S. Navy Band Northeast Pops Ensemble will perform at the East Somerville Community School at 7pm on July 3. All other entertainment will be postponed until July 10.)

Middle School Writer’s Den for Students Entering Grades 5 through 8
Summer writing adventures! Are you about to enter 5th through 8th grade (or of corresponding age)? Do you love to write? Add to your fun and productivity this summer by coming to the middle school Writers’ Den, Monday evenings at the central Somerville Public Library. We will meet informally to share our work, workshop ideas, learn some tips, and participate in publishing. Poetry, fiction, nonfiction, school newspaper reporting— what’s your interest? This summer, stay in touch with your talents and develop your skills with those who share your desire to reach an audience.
Pack a pencil or a pen, a notebook or a pad, flashlight and a healthy snack, and please bring a short completed piece of writing. Monday evenings, June 23 through August 18, 6:15 – 8:30 pm. Summer Meals Program
Once again, kids and teens in Somerville age 18 and under can enjoy free summer meals at sites across Somerville! Free Meals ALL SUMMER for ALL Somerville Youth! Join us for FREE breakfast and lunch prepared by Somerville’s award-winning Food and Nutrition Services Department, available all summer for youth under the age of 19. Here’s a list of locations and times where you can enjoy a free and nutritious meal:
