“Arthur Wahlberg Independent Film Might Be Coming to Somerville”

Rumor has it that Arthur Wahlberg, the oldest brother of film stars Mark Wahlberg and Donnie Wahlberg, might have a screening of his independent film, “The Rude, The Mad, and The Funny” – a feature comedy – at AMC Cinemas at Assembly Row in Somerville, MA to be followed by an After Party at a restaurant nearby. The film had a successful premiere on September 18th at the Hingham Patriot Cinemas, followed by an After Party at Wahlburgers, one of the family’s restaurants.

2014 Somerville Collier Strong Kickball Tournament at Trum Field

Hundreds attended the 2014 Collier Strong Kickball Tournament at Trum Field in Somerville this past Saturday to honor slain MIT police officer Sean Collier who was brutally murdered during the Boston Marathon bombing.

Collier had plans about his future jn Somerville and was going to become a Somerville Police officer before his tragic murder took place.

The 2nd annual event took place under sunny sky’s in 80 degree temperatures at Trum Field on Broadway in Somerville with an overwhelming crowd in attendance.

Somerville’s Medeiros Sisters Honored at Fenway Park

Two Somerville sisters, Judy and Nancy Medeiros were recognized this past Thursday night at the Fenway Park EMC Club and awarded the Shinning Star Award from the “Accelerated Cure Project” (ACP) for their MS Fundraisers to benefit MS research.

The Medeiros sister’s have run the “Annual Edmund Mederios Foundation Fundraiser”and donates its proceeds to benefit research for MS for the past 14 years.

Special Person of The Week William “Bill” Roche

William “Bill” Roche, a lifelong Somerville resident who has served the City of Somerville as an elected official since 1996.

He held the office of Alderman for City of Somerville from 1996 – 2012 (16 years) and now he is the Director of Personnel for the City of Somerville from 2012-present.

Bill Roche has always been and still is involved with many charitable organizations throughout the city and is always ready to lend a helping hand when needed. Bill really cares about this city and he has always been there for it’s citizens.

We here at the Somerville News Weekly salute you both for everything that you do to make Somerville a better place.

Former Interim Somerville Police Chief Femino Takes on New Role

Former Acting Chief of Police Charlie Femino announced his intention to retire effective at the
end of this month in order to accept a post at Endicott College located in Beverly, Massachusetts as the Director/Chief of Public Safety. In his new role he will lead the college’s 22 officer Campus Safety Department, as well as coordinate any emergency preparedness efforts.
