Join the City of Somerville for the fourth annual Somerville Bulb Blitz on Saturday, Nov. 8 and help prepare your neighborhood for a bright and colorful spring 2015! From 10 a.m. to noon, residents of all ages will gather at public spaces throughout the City to plan tulip and daffodil bulbs in anticipation of the 2015 spring season. Since 2011, volunteers have planted more than 9,150 bulbs citywide. Participants should bring their own tools (bulb planters, shovels, hoes, gloves, etc.). Mayor Walsh to Announce Major Climate Preparedness Efforts on Two-year Anniversary of Hurricane Sandy

BOSTON — On the two-year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, Mayor Martin J. Walsh will be joined by local officials to announce a new regional effort to help prepare Boston and the metropolitan area for the impacts of climate change. The event will also include the kickoff of the international design competition, Boston Living With Water, as well as an update on Boston’s climate efforts.

Somerville:INFORMATION ON OTIS STREET SHOOTING 10/27/14

SOMERVILLE – On Monday, October 27, 2014, at 7:50 p.m., the Somerville Police Department received 911 calls reporting gunshots heard in the vicinity of Otis St. and Cross St. Responding Officers were met by a 25-year-old male victim who appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound to his left arm. The victim’s injury appeared to be non-life threatening and he was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital via Cataldo Ambulance. Police searched the area to no avail for two male Hispanic suspects in their late 20s that fled the scene in an unknown direction. This incident is under investigation by the Somerville Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Ballistics Division. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, please contact Detective Jonathon Thermidor of the Somerville Police Criminal Investigation Division at 617-625-1600, extension 7231.

Somerville Police Officer Robert Hickey Injured in Motor Vehicle Accident

At 9:10 AM today, Traffic Officer Robert Hickey was involved in a motor vehicle crash while operating a police motorcycle. This crash occurred at the intersection of Medford Street and Pearl Street and involved a 1995 Honda Odyssey operated by a male out of Malden, MA. Officer Hickey, a 20 year department veteran, was transported to Mass General Hospital via Cataldo Ambulance suffering from serious but non-life threatening injuries. The crash is under investigation by the Somerville Police Accident Reconstruction Team.

On 10/26/14 at approximately 20:04 while in uniform and operating marked unit E2, I was dispatched to Target for a report of two male suspects in the store attempting to cut security wires attached to merchandise. Officer Ducasse also in uniform and assigned to marked unit E3 was sent as my back up.

Somerville Honors The O’Leary Brothers

This past Saturday morning, the Somerville Veterans Services Department and the City of Somerville dedicated 139 Hudson Street in honor of the O’Leary Brothers.

Freinds, relatives elected officials and the Post 19 Honor Guard were in attendance as Veterans Services Director Jay Weaver unveiled the new street sign recognizing the O’Leary Brothers for their dedicated military service to their country.

Alderman Sullivan, Alderman Mary Jo Rossetti, State Rep. Denise Provost and Alderman Bill White were in attendance and honored the three heroes at the street dedication for the O’Leary Family.

It was a moving ceremony with a family member singing the National Anthem.

Somerville Youth Arts Coordinator Jimmy Del Ponte , The Somerville High School Music Department and The Communications Department announces Somerville Rocks

The semiannual concert, now in its fifth year, features bands and solo singers and is sure to be an exciting evening. The performers range in age from 12 to 17 and includes students from Somerville High School, along with several elementary schools. The Somerville High School Jazz Band along with The Advanced Guitar Class will perform. Also on the bill are Stress Fracture, and Tenacious Three. The show will be held at The East Somerville Community School on Friday November 7th at 7 pm and admission is free.

The Somerville Recreation Dept is sponsoring a middle school Track Program this Fall

This past Friday at Fresh Pond in a field of 75 runners from BBN, Belmont Hill & BC High. The boys conquered the 1.95 mile course despite an unusually warm October day. Practice occurs Monday & Thursday at Trum from 3:30-4:30pm through 11/8 state championship invitational at Ft Devens.
