Obituary
Kathleen P. (McLaughlin) Callahan – Of Somerville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 31, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was 91 years old.
Born and raised in Whinpark, Carndonagh, County Donegal, Ireland, she was the beloved daughter of the late Denis and Susan (McDaid) McLaughlin. A devoted member of both the Irish Social Club of West Roxbury and the Donegal Association of Boston, she generously dedicated her time and talents to the organizations, serving in many leadership roles over the years, including President and Treasurer. She was also a member of the Irish Cultural Centre. Although she made her home in the United States, Kathleen cherished every opportunity to return to Ireland to visit family, reconnect with lifelong friends, and embrace the traditions and roots that meant so much to her.
Kathleen was a 40+ years waitress at Legal Sea Foods. She started in Inman Square, and worked in several locations during her tenure. She was known for her strong work ethic, warm personality, quick wit and the genuine friendships she formed with both coworkers and customers.
Kathleen had a joyful spirit and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. She loved Irish music (especially Danny O’Donnell) and was always the first on the floor at many Irish dances.
She took great pride in her beautiful yard, which reflected her talent for gardening and her attention to detail. Kathleen also enjoyed occasionally trying her luck at Encore and looked forward to the excitement and fun of each visit.
Above all else, Kathleen treasured her family and friends. Nothing brought her greater happiness than spending time with those she loved, especially the late John Canavan and Anna McAllister, along with Susie Gallagher and Terry Stilwell. Whether gathered around a table sharing stories, celebrating special occasions, or simply enjoying each other’s company, Kathleen’s warmth, laughter, and loving presence made every moment memorable. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, strong Irish spirit, and the love she shared so freely with everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Beloved mother of Denise Straticos and her husband Jim, and Susan Callahan Post and her late husband Larry Post. Devoted grandmother of Sam Post and his wife Sabina Muccigrosso, and Sean Post. Cherished sister of the late Mary Butcher, and Charlie, Joe and Denis McLaughlin. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
