About fifty residents took part in a community meeting in the shell of a new Winter Hill business last Monday. The community members met to share ideas and brainstorm a vision for the future of Broadway. The City of Somerville brought in urban planning firm Better Block to help lead discussion and take concrete steps towards improvements.

Printmaking is one the world’s oldest arts, and today’s printmaking techniques may be some of the least understood. Reporter Kelly Thomas takes us to two printmaking studios in Somerville that are bringing artists together and keeping the process vibrant.

The opioid reversing drug Narcan is saving the lives of overdose victims. Getting the drug to victims quickly can make the difference between life and death. Karishma Desai reports on the efforts to make this tool in the battle against opioid deaths more available.

Police body cameras are also getting a lot of attention these days. Somerville is among the Massachusetts cities and towns that are taking steps to add the cameras to their policing strategy. Pilot programs around the state are getting a good response. But the new technology requires new policies, protocols and extensive police training. Ellie Romano reports.

Michael Everett “Mike” Capuano born January 9, 1952 is a very well liked and respected politician who serves as the U.S. Representative for Massachusetts’s 7th congressional district. A member of the Democratic Party, his district includes the northern three-fourths of Boston, as well as Somerville and Cambridge. The gross neglect by our Congress is astounding. It just let the Perkins loan program expire, making it that much harder for young people to get a college education. We need more education and less hardship, not the other way around. 540,000 students received Perkins loans last year. As a result of Wednesday’s heavy rain and subsequent flooding, MWRA contractors will conduct necessary repairs on Medford St., between Somerville Ave. and South St., on Thursday evening from 6 to approximately 9 p.m., and on Friday, Oct. 2, from 9 a.m. to approximately 4 p.m. During the work, Medford St. in this area will be closed to through traffic. Motorists are asked to consider alternate routes if possible, and to follow posted detours.

  
This was my first call of the day. This 4 week old kitten was found by a kid on his way to school. He’s a pretty sick little guy. I’m on the hunt for his litter mates this morning. Hopefully this little guy pulls through and his siblings can be located.
