Join the Somerville Commission for Women

SOMERVILLE – The City of Somerville is seeking six new volunteer members to join the Somerville Commission for Women (SCW). If you’re passionate about advocating for the wellbeing and equity of women and gender minorities in our community, this is a great opportunity to make an impact.

What is the Commission for Women?
The SCW is a 15-member commission serving as a centralizing force in the City of Somerville and the community on all women’s issues by providing information, referrals, guidance, and more to public agencies and organizations engaged in activities and programs intended to eliminate prejudice and discrimination against women because of their status as women or minority women.

Who Can Join?
All Somerville residents are encouraged to apply.

What is the Time Commitment?
Members serve for a three-year term. The SCW meets on the third Tuesday of each month from 7 to 8 p.m. with in-person and virtual options available. Members are also encouraged to attend public events organized by the SCW. Together, applicants should expect to allocate roughly 10 hours per month to related activities.

What is the Appointment Process?
Members are approved by the Mayor.
