This week’s “Faces of Assembly Row” features Tom Bent, founder of Bent Electrical, the company responsible to put the lights on at Assembly Row.

Bent Electrical’s partnership with the local electricians union to add two Somerville High School students to the electrical team at Assembly Row and his the addition of 50 more hires for the project, prove that Tom and his team are vital in keeping the lights on and showing off the opportunities the Assembly Row project has created for the community!

“Rock and Run” 5k hosted by Radio 92.9 and Assembly Row- Saturday, June 21

Saturday June 21, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Assembly Row is working in conjunction with 92.9 to host the inaugural Rock and Run 5k obstacle race, which will have monkey bars, climbs, hurdles, and walls with live musical acts at every mile marker along the course. After crossing the finish line, runners will be invited to relax at a post race party featuring a beer garden (21+) and will be capped off by an exclusive performance by a national recording artist.

Somerville Firefighters Hold Moment of Silence to Remember Firefighters Lost on Arrow Paper Fire 40th Anniversary

On Tuesday morning at 9:00am to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the fire at arrow paper that claimed the lives of 2 Somerville Firefighters Joseph Reilly and Robert Brickley. Firefighters from the station named in their honor stand at attention for a moment of silence.

Frank Conole, a retired City of Cambridge Dept of Public Works employee that lives not too far from the site for the past six years has been decorating the Somerville Fire Department’s / Arrow Paper Company’s Fire Memorial that’s located at 111 South St. in Somerville.
Francis shows up at every holiday with the a decorative wreath in festive decor to pay tribute to firefighters lost in the line of duty.

The proposed 2015 budget will invest an estimated $203,105, 629 in program expenditures. Mayor Curtatone with the City of Somerville’s Finance Director, Budget Manager, and SomerStat Director proposed a municipal budget plan for the 2015 fiscal year that surpasses previous year’s total financial plan. Curtatone denotes the $8,062,621 increase in expenditures to an evolving city with evolving needs.

After a week long trial and the jury deliberating since last Friday, on Monday afternoon, Michael Barnett, 32, of Somerville has been found guilty of first degree murder by a jury of twelve in the November 22, 2009 death of Christopher Souza of Somerville.

Lowell Street Community Meeting – community note

Curtatone and Ward 5 Alderman Mark Niedergang invite all community members to a public meeting on Wednesday, June 25 to discuss information and plans for the Lowell Street corridor from Highland Avenue to Medford Street, and to discuss possible plans to encourage safety. Martins Arrest

On 6/8/2014 while assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division I was summoned to the police station to meet a Cambridge Detective. He told me that he was investigating a robbery that
occurred on 6/8/2014 at 03:39 in Cambridge. The victim reported that his keys, and wallet containing credit cards and his cell phone were taken in the robbery. The suspect was arrested by Somerville P.D. based on probable cause. He was transferred to Cambridge Police.

While in marked unit 661, I was dispatched to Puritan Road for a Breaking and Entering of a Motor Vehicle. Dispatch informed all responding units that the suspect was in the custody of a good Samaritan and that the situation was slowly escalating. Marked unit 663 (Off. Pasqualino) and plain clothes Detective Sgt. Chaille responded as back-up.

Jim Halloran announces move to DPW. Public process to be utilized in search for new Director.

SOMERVILLE – Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone announced today that following an announcement by the City’s Superintendent of Recreation, Jim Halloran, of his intent to accept a position within the Somerville Department of Public Works’ Weights and Measures division, the City will conduct a public search for the next Superintendent, effective immediately. Halloran will assume his position at the DPW on July 1.

At 1 p.m. This Sunday June 8th join Somerville Historic Preservation Commission and Historic Somerville for a tour of the Milk Row Cemetery. Head over to City Hall at 2 p.m. for a guided bike tour of Somerville’s innovative people, places and products. The historical ride is organized by the Somerville Historic Preservation Commission and the Somerville Bicycle Committee. Somerville Police Department officers will accompany riders on the tour.

Friday, May 30th through Sunday, June 1st Assembly Row celebrated its Grand Opening Season. Although the area promises to be a unique destination for work, relaxation, recreation, and shopping, Director of Marketing, Andrea Simpson says, “it’s a neighborhood not an outlet center. Assembly Row has an essence of energy.”

The Sunsetters kick off their 2014 season on July 1 and are looking for neighborhoods around the City to perform in. Sunsetters shows last 45-minutes and include a variety of musical selections – from classics to the latest hits.
