Somerville Girls Track

Results of the Division 1 State meet held on June 1 at Andover HS. Sophmore Gabrielle Etienne placed 5th in the Shot Put with a career best throw of 33′ 3″. Gabrielle was also the GBL shot put Champion and a GBL All-Star in this her first season of track.

Melissa Batista competed in the Triple Jump and just missed earning a medal with a jump of 34′ 7″, placing 9th. Saragrace Magre was 10th in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 1:10.49 and Alison Kaba competed in the Discus. Our 4x400m relay team ran their fastest time of the year with a 4:18.90 performance. Running on that relay was Kaylee Lima, Saragrace Magre, Catherine Nakato and Melissa Baptista. Our 4x100m Relay just missed their best time of the season, running a 53.04. Competing on that team was Samantha Simon, Melissa Baptista, Alison Kaba and Saragrace Magre.

The Girls Track team concluded the season with very competitive performances at the States. This team has worked hard all season and despite a 2-2 dual meet record, came on at the end of the season to win the GBL Championship meet. That is a credit to Captains Kaylee Lima, Alison Kaba, Melissa Baptista, Samantha Simon and Laxmi Spearing.
