Somerville Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Accident

On Thursday June 12, 2014, at about 10:20 am, the Somerville Police and Fire Departments responded to a reported motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Holland and Dover Streets in Somerville.

Somerville Police Officers arrived and discovered a 90 year old women had been struck by a Fed Ex Delivery truck being operated by 24 year old year old Charles Reyes Fernandez of Glenn Street, Melrose, Massachusetts.

The injured women, Helen Monagle of Medford Massachusetts, was transported to the Mount Auburn Hospital, in Cambridge where she later succumbed to her injures.
The case is under investigation by the Somerville Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office, and the Accident Reconstruction Team.
According to Police Chief Charles Femino, “it is unfortunate for the community that we have to report this accident.” “The exact circumstances of how and why this accident occurred remain under investigation and our condolences remain with the family and friends of the victim.”
No further comment will be made at this time, as this matter is still under investigation.
