Somerville’s Hidden Truth: Why City Hall Stays Silent on Crime
By William Tauro
The City of Somerville has a dirty little secret, and it’s not just the unreported shootings or the string of crimes that seem to vanish from public view. City Hall, led by the mayor and city councilors, appears to be playing a dangerous game of smoke and mirrors. Why? To protect Somerville’s bond rating and keep property values sky-high. They want you to believe Somerville is the modern-day Mayberry RFD—a quaint, crime-free paradise. But the reality on our streets tells a different story. Tell that to the employees at CVS, staring at their shot-out windows, wondering what’s next. A large police presence swarmed the scene, and for good reason—bullets were flying while families were out shopping. Continue reading Somerville’s Leadership Needs to Face the Facts on Crime

By Judy Locchi Jacobs
A neighbor and I were talking about the condition of the sidewalk trees in our neighborhood in early June. She pointed out black spots on the foliage scattered on our street and sidewalks. Over the years, we had become acquainted and I always find Matt to be responsive and helpful. So he reached out to the city arborist to let him know what the issue was with our sidewalk trees.
