Obituary
Karen I. (Mosher) Oliveira, of Medford and formerly of Malden, passed away suddenly on May 19, 2026, she was 73. Born in Cambridge, Karen was the daughter of the late Geraldine (Crowther) Sawyer and Ronald Mosher.
A true caregiver at heart, Karen worked for many years as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Youville Hospital in Cambridge and later at the Visiting Nurse Association residences on Lowell Street in Somerville, where she was dedicated to all of her patients. As the oldest of five children, Karen was the “go to” in her family, offering a steady hand and solid advice for any problem. She was a cherished daughter, beloved wife, devoted sister and aunt; who enjoyed nothing more than time spent with her family, never missing the holidays or events together. She also enjoyed time spent traveling with friends, visiting California, Mexico, and Jamaica among many other destinations. At home she loved reading, cooking, gardening and will be remembered for her love of elephants.
In addition to her parents, Karen was predeceased by her beloved husband Antonio M. Oliveira. She is survived by her brothers and sisters; Donna LoPrete and her husband John of Burlington, Ronald Mosher of Somerville, Richard Mosher of Medford and Janet Furtado of Medford. Cherished aunt of Dawn Sicari and her husband TJ, John LoPrete, Lisa Furtado-Guerra and her wife Cindy Guerra, Robert Furtado and his wife Raquel, Katelyn Mosher, Jennifer Bannister, Sandra Rowan and her husband Kenneth, Nicole Manning and her husband Dave and the great-aunt of Andrew Dillon and Matthew Sicari, Amelia and Logan Furtado, Benjamin Guerra, Kenny and Jake Rowan.
Visiting Hours will be held in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville on Tuesday morning, May 26thfrom 9:00AM to 11:00AM followed by a funeral procession to Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett where a graveside service will be held at 11:45AM. Relatives and friends invited to attend.
