Let’s talk about what’s really happening in Somerville. The folks up at City Hall, from the mayor to the city councilors, keep insisting that our city is a crime-free utopia. No crime in Somerville? Please. Tell that to the residents who heard gunshots ringing out at Assembly Row last night around 10 PM, right in the middle of a busy shopping area. Tell that to the employees at CVS, staring at their shot-out windows, wondering what’s next. A large police presence swarmed the scene, and for good reason—bullets were flying while families were out shopping.
This isn’t an isolated incident, either. We’ve seen reports of shootings, assaults, and break-ins across the city, yet our leaders seem content to bury their heads in the sand. The Somerville Police Department is doing what they can, but they need support from City Hall—real action, not empty promises or denial.
I want to hear from you, the people of Somerville. Do you feel safe walking the streets at night? Are you confident in the city’s leadership to address these issues? Or are you as frustrated as I am with the disconnect between what we’re told and what we’re seeing? It’s time for our mayor and councilors to stop pretending everything’s fine and start tackling the crime problem head-on.
Drop your thoughts below or reach out to me directly. Let’s demand accountability and a safer Somerville—because ignoring the problem won’t make it go away.
