Melissa Hurley Sullivan, popular wife of Somerville Alderman-at Large Dennis Sullivan photographed here with, Norman Knight, founder and President of the “100 Club of Massachusetts” as he celebrated her birthday last week.

The 100 Club is made up of business and political leaders of Massachusetts that started in 1959 inspired by the death of police and fire officers.

The Club began to assist the fallen hero’s in scholarships, summer camp programs for their children and various vocational guidance through the years.

The “100 Club” still operates today with meetings throughout the year.

The numbers are in: Hubway recently crunched the 2013 numbers on rides taken by Somerville members, new Somerville members, trips taken to or from Somerville, and some other interested data. Spoiler alert: We saw big spikes in residents using the bike rental service and in people using Hubway bikes to get to and from Somerville.

Former Somerville Mayor Dorothy Kelly Gay Honored in Dedham

On Thursday evening, a Special Reception/Casino Night with over two hundred friends and former staffers in attendance at an event in honor of a special lady, the Honorable Former Somerville Mayor Dorothy Kelly Gay.

The event was hosted by The Hebrew Senior Living Care Centers of Boston.

The ceremony was focused in honor of all Mayor Dorothy Gay’s lifetime accomplishments and how she during get employment with The Hebrew Senior Life before and after she was the mayor, made it a better place.

The event was held at the Dedham Country Club in Dedham MA.

The event raised over $42,000.00 for the Hebrew Senior Life Seniors and their charities!

“The Somerville Theater turns 100 on May 11, 2014 and Ian Judge, Director of Operations for our landmark and historic theater, sat down with “Greater Somerville” host Joe Lynch, and spoke about the theater’s history, the famous feet to trod and dance across its stage, the classic films to debut on its screen and the upcoming 100th Anniversary Gala on May 11 celebrating Somerville’s very own movie palace. The highlight of this celebration will be the showing of the original MGM classic film, “The Wizard of Oz”.
