“We Have An App For That”
Mark Niedergang announced today that he has received endorsements from State Representative Carl Sciortino; Somerville Aldermen Rebekah Gewirtz and Tony Lafuente: and Somerville School Committee members Adam Sweeting, Christine Rafal and Paul Bockelman. Niedergang is a candidate for Ward 5 Alderman and has represented Ward 5 on the Somerville School Committee for eight years.
Carl Sciortino, State Representative, 34th Middlesex District (Somerville and Medford) said: “I’ve known Mark for 10 years. I’ve watched him do a great job representing Ward 5 on the School Committee. He studies the issues, works hard, and is always well-prepared. He’s the best person for the job of Ward 5 Alderman.”
“Mark has a vision for the future of Somerville that includes everyone, especially working people, immigrants, and long-time residents,” said Ward 6 Alderman Rebekah Gewirtz. “Mark is the progressive choice for Ward 5 Alderman.”
Tony Lafuente declared “As Ward 4 Alderman, my priorities are constituent services and halting the continuous increase in residential taxes. I know Mark will respond quickly and effectively to constituents’ needs and will spend city funds carefully.”
Adam Sweeting, Christine Rafal and Paul Bockelman, Somerville School Committee members from Wards 3, 4 and 6 wrote: “The three of us have served with Mark collectively for 18 years. Mark has contributed greatly to the improvement in the Somerville Public Schools. He is strong on both the ‘nuts and bolts’ as well as the ‘big picture’ parts of the job. He would be an outstanding Alderman for Ward 5.”
Niedergang noted “I’m proud and grateful for the support of these six Somerville leaders. They have worked hard to represent our neighborhoods in Somerville, and they continue to provide great service to our city. I hope to be able to continue my service to Somerville and Ward 5 as Ward 5 Alderman.”
Niedergang has also been endorsed by these eight organizations and unions:
• Progressive Democrats of Somerville
• Sierra Club of Massachusetts
• Magoun Square Neighborhood Association
• SEIU Local 3, Firemen and Oilers
• Floorcoverers Local 2168
• Pile Drivers Local 56

Somerville Fire Department Lt.Tom Tierney’s young daughter, Emma was just diagnosed with Leukemia. Lt. Steve Belski has put this site together for anyone that might want to help in any way that they can, to try to help ease some of the burden off this family’s shoulder, while they are going through this very difficult time.
The beautiful little 7 year old girl in this picture is Emma. She was diagnosed last Thursday with Leukemia and is currently undergoing treatment for the next 6 weeks at Children’s Hospital. Emma’s parents Tom & Jessica are two of my very good friends. I would like to raise some money to help with their medical costs. No donation amount is too small….every bit helps! Thank you very, very much! Please continue to keep Tom, Jessica, Emma and her little sister Addie in your thoughts and prayers! We are “All In” For Emma!
