4th Grade Blue – The Cinderella Kids

The Somerville Boys 4th grade Blue basketball team completed a magical run through the Metrowest Basketball League Playoffs on Sunday with a 35-25 victory over Easton in the championship game. In front of a packed house of family and friends, the team came out to a fast start led by Julian Goodridge’s hot shooting and strong point guard play. Shane Doe and Ares Osris provided a much needed interior presence, gathering many big rebounds and tallying some clutch points in the paint. Will Redd, Owen Teehan and Lincoln Marra injected the team with some life, as their energy and hustle of the bench kept the game close at halftime.
When Easton began to pull away a little bit, inspired defensive efforts by Mihali Schribber, Peter Maher and Kaeden Williams were able to slow down the other team just enough for Somerville to get back into the game. Down by 3 heading into the 4thquarter, Colin Rosas ripped off three straight baskets to put Somerville ahead and they never looked back. When Easton was threatening to mount a comeback with a couple of minutes remaining, Roger Desrochers sealed the game with a clutch three point shot. The boys brought the championship home- a truly thrilling victory to cap a great overall season.
Led by Coach Olo Bayul and Coach Chi Che, the team improved drastically since the start of the season. Despite some loses, the boys continued to bring amazing attitude, effort and energy to every game and practice. Most importantly they played as a team and represented Somerville in the best way possible. They made their family and friends extremely proud. The future is bright for Somerville basketball.

4th Grade Red – Can’t wait for next year

The Somerville Tradition 4th Grade Red Basketball team lost a tight game in the first round of the Metrowest Basketball League Playoffs 32-28. Ousman Kada sparked the offense with 18 points. Walter Musser was all over the floor on defense chipping in with steals, deflections, loose balls, and rebounds. Cayden Jules returned from a broken bone in his foot and put on an inspiring performance. Kyle Antonelli, Ethan Buizon, Levon Delmonico, Ben Dicarlo, Ziyad Karamoussi, and Joel Orellana all played well in defeat.
Ryan Greenburg and Paul Delmonico coached the boys this winter. Though the wins did not pile up, the team continued to improve on both offense and defense throughout the year and their efforts almost pulled off the playoff upset. The boys will continue to work on their skills this summer and look forward to getting back on the hardwood next season.
