Lourdes L. (Loureiro) Silva passed away peacefully at home, lovingly surrounded by her family on Saturday, August 22nd. She was 97. Born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal, she was the daughter of late Antonio L. and Eulalia (Da Silva Serrao) Loureiro.

Lourdes came to the United States with her beloved husband Artur. She began working at Franks Beauty Salon in Somerville, once she completed her studies at the Mansfield School. She eventually bought the business in 1973 and, with the business acumen of her husband, the talent of her first hire, Ilda Grossi, and a lot of hard work, built a fabulous business with a large and loyal clientele from all over greater Boston. The beautifully appointed shop on Broadway in Somerville soon became a landmark as the customer base grew. People still hold dear to their hearts the legacy of hard work, customer care, and love of beauty they encountered there. Lourdes and Ilda’s relationship grew into a deep friendship in which Lourdes considered her like a daughter. Ilda took over the shop in 1996 and operated it until her retirement. Lourdes continued working with her until she was 80 years old. Lourdes had a wonderful life with her husband Artur. They enjoyed traveling, spending endless days on the beach, regular trips to Aruba, and occasional trips to Foxwoods and Encore.

Lourdes was the beloved wife of the late Artur M. Silva, who passed away in 2008. She leaves behind her best friend, caregiver and a woman who was like a daughter, Ilda Grossi and her children, Deborah Luciano and Jesse Grossi, all of Somerville. She leaves her nephew Paul Ribeiro and his wife Susan and their daughter Cristina. In Portugal she leaves behind her two God children and two cousins who preceded her in death. Lourdes leaves her dear friend Joe Costa and was predeceased by her companion, Delmar Modesto.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home 306 Main St., Medford, on Thursday, August 27th from 9:30 – 10:30 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Ann Church, 399 Medford Street, Somerville, at 11 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.

The family is grateful for the wonderful support and care given by the visiting nurses and hospice care givers. In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Lourdes’ memory to the VNA, 37 Broadway, suite 2, Arlington, MA 02474.
