Controversy Surrounding $18 Million In Pay Hikes

   House approved 116-44, Senate approved 31-9 and Gov. Charlie Baker vetoed an $18 million pay raise package including hiking the salaries of the two leaders who filed the bill, House Speaker Robert DeLeo (D-Winthrop) and Senate President Stan Rosenberg (D-Amherst), by $45,000 from $97,547 to $142,547. The measure also hikes the pay of the Legislature’s two Republican leaders, Sen. Bruce Tarr (R-Gloucester) and Rep. Bradley Jones (R-North Reading) by $37,500 from $85,047 to $122,547. Our last 100th Anniversary Committee meeting at our beloved church, the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church was a fun yet productive evening. It has been a heartfelt bittersweet wonderful experience planning and photographing events with this awesome group for the past few years. The City, Somerville Public Schools, and Canopy Somerville have teamed up on a new, innovative learning experience for Somerville students. As part of the BuildCorps Incubator, Somerville middle school and high school students will work in groups to identify a problem in their community, propose a solution, turn that solution into a product in the Somerville Fab Lab, and learn how to market that product to customers and pitch to investors. Bambrick, Gerard of Haverhill, died December 30, 2016. Gerard was born in Boston, raised in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School. After joining the work force for a short period of time he joined the Marine Corp where he served as a very proud Marine, at one point being named “Marine of the Month”.
