The City, Somerville Public Schools, and Canopy Somerville have teamed up on a new, innovative learning experience for Somerville students. As part of the BuildCorps Incubator, Somerville middle school and high school students will work in groups to identify a problem in their community, propose a solution, turn that solution into a product in the Somerville Fab Lab, and learn how to market that product to customers and pitch to investors. The program will run after school two days a week for 14 weeks both at the Somerville Fab Lab and in Canopy’s new incubator space at 14 Tyler St. in Union Square. The program will end in May with each student group pitching their ideas to a group of Boston entrepreneurs and venture capital firms.
The BuildCorps incubator starts in February. Info sessions will be held in the Somerville Fab Lab, located in the basement of the vocational section of the high school, below the gymnasium, on Tuesday, January 17, at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday, January 26, at 6:30 p.m.
