Real Life Somerville Police Stories:Maureen DOYLE (Shoplifting)

On January 09, 2017, at approximately 20:15 hours, I, Officer Rivera, while in full uniform and working as Alpha 3, was alerted by Saks Fifth Loss Prevention Detective XXXXX of a female who shoplifted and exited the store. XXXXX informed me that the female suspect walked in to the fitting room with several items and concealed the merchandise inside of a black purse.

Once on scene, I immediately recognized the suspect as Maureen Doyle from a previous incident that occurred at the Kmart store. Please see incident #17001764. I approached Ms. Doyle, along with XXXXX and recovered 2 dresses, with price tags that were in plain view, from Ms. Doyle’s purse. Ms. Doyle was then escorted to the loss prevention office that is located inside of the store.

Once inside of the office, XXXXX provided a retail receipt for the dresses and informed me that the total value of the merchandise is $104.94. I then placed Ms. Doyle under arrest for shoplifting over $100 by asportation. Ms. Doyle was then transported to the station, via 200, by Officer Carroll and booked in the usual manner by Sergeant Fusco.

A picture of the merchandise and a copy of the receipt will be attached to this report. Video surveillance of the incident will also be provided as soon as it becomes available.

Respectfully submitted,

Officer Joseph Rivera #309

Somerville Police Department
