Somerville Remembering Former DPW Employee and Friend Leo Saltman 

Our condolences go out to the Saltman family for the loss of Leo.


Leo Saltman, a Somerville High School Graduate, a United States Marine at Parris Island, a former Somerville Department of Public Works employee and a father who had many friends across the city who enjoyed his friendship.


You could always ask Leo anything that has to do with tree’s in the City of Somerville and he could answer it for you with a smile! Leo was a good friend to many here in the city as well as here at The Somerville News Weekly.


Leo will be sadly missed by many here in Somerville.

SALTMAN, Leonard “Leo”, Jr. Of Somerville, January 8th, 2017 at age 49. Devoted husband of Celia (Miller) Saltman. Loving father of Matthew, Kelsie, Shayne and Megan Saltman. Proud and Cherished Papa of Renata. Adored son of Sandra (Dobbins) Saltman and the late Leonard Saltman Sr. Loving Brother of Cynthia Saltman. Beloved Son-in-law of the late Richard and Joan Miller. Leo is survived by 15 nieces and nephews, was the great uncle of 3 and will be greatly missed by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, but especially by his dog Deeks. Funeral from the Rogers Funeral Home, 380 Cambridge St., CAMBRIDGE on Friday, January 13th, 2017 at 9:00 am. Funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Church, (Union Square) in Somerville at 10:00 am. Visiting hours at the funeral home on Thursday, January 12th, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Leo served proudly in the United States Marine Corp., was a retired City of Somerville employee and a member of the American Legion Post 45 of Medford.   1. Leo was one of the goofiest & nicest guys I have ever known. He did not only love his family so much, he also respected all of those around him. I have never heard him say anything bad about anyone & no one can say he has ever made anyone feel uncomfortable in his presence either. A no nonsense kind of guy but always greeted you with the warmest smile or with a silly joke. My heart aches for all of those who love him & will miss him so much. R.I.P. Leo a/k/a Goofball

  2. So sad..Leo was a great dad, friend, and man. People could take a lesson from him. Wonderful person. He will be missed greatly by all.

It really hurts when you think you’re going to see Leo walking around the corner with his dog and you stop and talk and always think you will see him again the next day or later that night and then all the sudden he’s gone he will be dearly missed by a lot of us we love to Leo great guy wonderful dad and one heck of a neighbor I’ll tell you my condolences to the family and friends of Leo and may the Lord comfort and heal you during this time of loss
