I was and am a huge proponent of community and back yard gardening. And I was for many years. But now I am not. Somerville has had a huge increase in its rat population and it totally stoped my growing vegetables in my back yard. When we had several community meetings over this it was pointed out that rats are vigorously searching for food and a garden is ground zero for them to feed. So it was very discouraging but I had to quit. I suggest strongly if you don’t want rats scurrying around your yard making rat holes and breading more. Don’t do it.
