Obituary
John Francis Mainey passed away suddenly on May 7, 2024 at the age of 75, he
was a lifelong resident of Somerville.
Born in Everett he was the son of the late Dennis J. and Anna M. (Tipton) Mainey. He was the beloved husband of the late Susan Mainey (Burns) – and the brother of the late Robert Mainey of Tewksbury. He is survived by his brother James Mainey of Medford, MA and his close cousin Margaret of Merrimack, NH along with nephews, nieces, and cousins.
John attended Somerville High School until he enlisted in the US Army where he served until 1969. He then worked for the City of Somerville where he held many positions before his retirement. John was a dedicated member of both the Dilboy VFW Post 529 & the Disabled American Veterans of Somerville, where he enjoyed his weekly game of pool with many former high school friends. He was an avid Boston sports fan with a large collection of team hats – and enjoyed many classic car events.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, beginning at 1pm at George Dilboy VFW Post 529, 351Summer Street in Somerville, MA (club area).
