Obituary

Smith-Lartey, Rakim J. – Of Somerville, passed away on April 13, 2024. He was 32 years young.

Born in Cambridge, he was the beloved son of Gertrude Lartey and Rakim Reiser. Rakim was always an outgoing spirit ever since he was a baby. He would always be making new friends wherever he went. If you were just meeting Rakim, it felt as if you’d known him forever. He enjoyed watching anything sports related but most of all he LOVED basketball. He was a talented basketball player who learned all his skills from his Uncle Leslie, and some phenomenal coaches/teachers. His personal goal was to be a professional basketball player. Rakim’s kind soul and gentle soul will be forever missed by all whom he loved.

Beloved son of Gertrude “Trudy” Lartey of Cambridge, and Rakim Reiser of Waltham. Devoted brother of Aleahna Lartey of Cambridge and Reese M. Smith. Loving grandson of Vida Djarnie of Somerville, and Douglas Smith and Debra Smith of Brockton. Cherished nephew of Leslie Lartey and his wife Julia Allen-Lartey, Kamal Umrani, and Cheresse Reiser. Dear cousin of Taj Allen-Lartey. He is also survived by countless loving family members and friends.

Calling Hours will be held on Saturday, April 27th in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) from 10:00AM to 12:00PM.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

Words of Remembrance will be held Saturday morning at 11:30AM.

Interment will be private.
