Meetings Planned to Discuss Somerville Zoning Overhaul

  

The Mayor’s Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development (OSPCD) announced today a series of meetings marking the next step in the Somerville Zoning Overhaul process. The meetings, which will cover a wide variety of topic areas, will be held from November 2015 through March 2016, and will discuss the ideas within the City’s new proposed zoning ordinance, respond to comments provided in the public review process, and propose changes to the ordinance based upon this feedback. The meeting schedule is as follows:

 

Public Space                                                               

· Date: Monday, November 23, 2015, 6:30 p.m.

· Location: West Somerville Neighborhood School, 177 Powder House Blvd

· Topics: Green spaces, civic spaces, useable open space, pervious area

 

Arts & Creative Economy                                        

· Date: Monday, December 7, 2015, 6:30 p.m.

· Location: Visiting Nurse Association Community Room, 259 Lowell St.

· Topics: Maker spaces, fabrication district, work/live lofts, creative space requirements

 

Attainable Housing                                                    

· Date: Monday, January 11, 2016, 6:30 p.m.

· Location: Visiting Nurse Association Community Room, 259 Lowell St.

· Topics: Inclusionary zoning, linkage, development bonuses

 

Residential Neighborhoods

· Date: Monday, January 25, 2016, 6:30 p.m.

· Location: Visiting Nurse Association Community Room, 259 Lowell St.

· Topics: Conserving neighborhoods, building types, lot dimensions

 

Mobility

· Date: Monday, February 8, 2016, 6:30 p.m.

· Location: Visiting Nurse Association Community Room, 259 Lowell St.

· Topics: Parking requirements, bike parking, mobility management program

 

Economic Development

· Date: Monday, February 22, 2016, 6:30 p.m.

· Topics: Commercial development, job creation

· Topics: Special permits, design review, neighborhood meetings, board process
