Real Life Somerville Police Stories:Shoplifting Arrest



On Wednesday, June 3rd, 2015 I, Officer Kim, was on routine patrol in marked cruiser East 4. At approximately 12:15 pm I was dispatched to Target, located at 180 Somerville Avenue, for a report of an uncooperative female shoplifter in custody.
From herein forth the female shoplifter will be referred to as the suspect. Unit East 3: Officer Pasqualino was also dispatched as back up.

Upon arrival I spoke with, who was identified as the reporting party, witness, and Loss Prevention employee. Woodruff stated that he witnessed the suspect, conceal an air mattress in her bag pack and attempt to exit the store without paying for item. Along with another Loss Prevention employee were able to apprehend the suspect, however the suspect was being uncooperative and initially would not disclose her personal information, then showed me the information the suspect had given them. She identified herself as:

However, after an extensive query performed by Somerville Control, Officer Pasqualino and I, we were unable to positively identify the suspect. I informed the suspect that she was being placed under arrest for Shoplifting. During a search of the suspect’s belongings a Massachusetts identification card was recovered and the suspect was positively identified as Dominica Smith. A further query of Smith’s information revealed that she had an active warrant for arrest issued by the Boston District Court. Smith was transported to the station for booking by Unit 200: Officer Beckford. Based on the facts and statements included in this report Smith is being charged with:
