At approximately 3:13pm on July 8, 2014 I, Officer Salvatore Fusco was working in the East One Patrol car when I responded to Home Depot for a reported of a shoplifter. Upon arrival, I went to the loss prevention office where I met the loss prevention officer who was in the company of a white male later Identified as Alexander Basisity.
Loss prevention officer told me that between 2:20pm and just prior to his calling the Somerville Police that he was observing Alexander Basisity
because the day prior he observed him try to purchase a $449.00 nail gun with a $54.00 price tag on it the prior day 7/7/2014. He went on to say that while he was observing Alexander Basisity he saw him take a bar code off of a box of nails valued at 54.00 with a box cutter and tape it on to the box containing a flooring nail gun which is valued at 449.00. After observing the switching of the price tag he waited until the suspect approached the register and pay for the items at which time he confronted him and asked him to come to the office with him which occured without incident. Upon arriving at the loss prevention office loss prevention officer contacted the Somerville Police to report the larceny.
After hearing the details from loss prevention officers I spoke to Alexander Bsisity and advised him that he was going to be arrested for larceny over $250.00 and contacted dispatch to request the prisoner transport wagon.
He was then transported to the Somerville Police Headquarters where he was booked by Sgt. Macarelli and processed in the usual manner.
Officer Salvatore Fusco, 292
