SOMERVILLE – Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone announced that the City’s annual Shape-Up Somerville / Somerville Recreation 5K Road Race will be held on Sunday morning, April 13th, starting and ending at the Somerville High School concourse, 93 Highland Avenue. The day will begin with a 1-mile children’s “Fun Run” at 10:30 a.m., followed by a 5K adult race & walk at 11:00 a.m. Registration is open to all community members at a price of $5 for youth under age 10 and $20 for adults. Price includes a commemorative t-shirt, refreshments and a celebration immediately following the adult race. A celebration will be held for any interested runners at the Casey’s, located across 173 Broadway, Somerville, MA 02145.

Checks should be made payable to Somerville Youth and Recreation Foundation (SYRF), and can be mailed or delivered to Somerville Recreation, 19 Walnut Street, Somerville, MA 02143.

The proceeds for this race will go to the Somerville Youth and Recreation
Foundation (SYRF). This Non-profit foundation was formed exclusively for
charitable purposes. The principle objective is to elicit funding through
solicitation and fund raising to support the immediate needs of the youth in
Somerville by providing the youth with opportunities that address their
activity needs, interest and aspiration’s for the future. Specifically, your
financial support will provide kids with the following programs and events
like Summer Camp, Educational & Special Needs programs, Flag Football, Indoor
Soccer, Basketball, Swim Meet, and two (2) Track meets. It gives all children
the opportunity to play team sports and represent their respective schools.

We need sponsors like you! Your donation will help with the infrastructure
cost of the race and will provide funding for the program/activities listed
above. We will put the name of any company or individual contributing $100 –
$500 (or more) on the back of the official road race T-shirt given away to all
(i.e., road race, camp, & track meet, etc.) participants. Your business will
also be publicized the SYRF Web Site. This race has always been a popular
race. The races in the past were great successes. Sponsors of this year’s race
have an opportunity to connect their businesses with a positive and worthy
ongoing program in the Somerville Community. We hope that you will take an
