A single family home located at 55R Lowell Street was damaged by fire on the afternoon of Thursday, February
27th. Somerville firefighters responded at 1:15 pm after a neighbor reported smoke coming from the two story home. Arriving firefighters found a fire in the first floor kitchen area which had spread through ceilings and walls to the second floor and down to the basement. Firefighters had to pull down several ceilings and walls to extinguish the spreading flames. Damage is estimated at $100,000. Three occupants, who were not home at the time of the fire, have been displaced. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries, one with burns to his neck and another with a hand injury. The cause of the fire is presently under investigation.
