Somerville/Medford Remembering Robert R. “Bob” Carney

Obituary
Carney, Robert R.- Of Somerville, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2024. He was 84 years old.

Born in Boston and raised in Somerville, he was the son of the late James and Doris L. (Heselton) Carney.

Robert, affectionately known as Bob, was deeply cherished by his family, especially his devoted wife, Mary. His love for family was matched only by his passions outside the home. Bob had an extraordinary knack for movies—he could recall intricate details from any film and would often share his insights with a contagious enthusiasm. When he wasn’t immersed in a movie, you could find him enjoying music, singing along to his favorite classic songs with joy and abandon.

An avid reader, Bob believed that any knowledge gained was valuable and always sought to expand his understanding through books. His keen mind also found a special delight in the television game show “Jeopardy!” where he frequently showcased his impressive ability to answer questions with remarkable speed. Bob’s zest for life and the warmth he brought into the lives of those around him will be profoundly missed. He is remembered not just for his interests but for the love and happiness he shared with his family and friends.
