Dear Billy T and Somerville News Weekly Speakup Line,

We are the night nurses working on the designated Covid floor. This was set up and I thought it would be cool to get the word out there. Thanks
Our dear friend Emma is on the night shift taking care of COVID patients at Cambridge Hospital. We met Emma through our work fighting for an economic system that treats all life as sacred. Now she is on the frontlines of the fight for our friends’ and neighbors’ lives, in a system that can’t keep up. Help us feed her and her team, with food and love!

From Emma:

“I still haven’t found the time or words to describe the experience of working at the hospital right now, but I will, and when I do I’ll have more to share. In the mean time, I have a concrete suggestion on how how you can support frontline healthcare workers even if you don’t have access to piles and piles of personal protective equipment! A lot of restaurants are still delivering, and will deliver to hospitals. Working the night shift means that when I show up to 12-hour shifts the break room is usually full of cookie crumbs and empty coffee containers and pizza boxes, and as much as my day shift counterparts deserve snacks on snacks, we get hungry too.

“Right now my floor is the floor admitting COVID patients and rule-outs, but every floor is affected. If you’re so inclined, please send food after 8pm and security will let us pick them up when they arrive. My co-workers and I feel mega irresponsible going to grocery stores after shifts but that’s kind of the only opportunity we have, and most of us are working extra shifts so that we can be overstaffed and lower the nurse-patient ratio as much as possible.

“And of course, the MOST important thing you can do for us is stay healthy and safe ❤️”

NOTES FROM US: Please only sign up to order restaurant delivery. Staying healthy and safe means helping from home. We encourage people to talk to the healthcare providers in your life about how to replicate this model safely and effectively where you live. Please support those who are working around the clock on the frontlines! ❤️
