INFORMATIONAL NEWS RELEASE
On 02/13/20 at approximately 1:46am Medford Police were notified that Cambridge Police Detectives were in a foot pursuit of a male suspect in the area of College Ave heading into Medford. Medford Officers responded to the area and met up with Cambridge Detectives as well as Somerville Officers. Information gathered on scene revealed that this suspect was involved in an incident in Cambridge at a 7-11 convenience store in which this suspect attempted to gain access to the stores cash register. Cambridge detectives then encountered the suspect in Somerville and a brief struggle ensued. Suspect then fled on foot to the area of St. Clement Parish in Medford. Officers observed an open door to the church with wet foot prints inside and had reason to believe that the suspect was inside.
Several hours prior to this incident, Medford Police responded to PLS Check Cashing on the Medford/Somerville line to investigate an attempted armed robbery by firearm. Due to the location, possible connection, and the possibility of a firearm involved, the area was immediately secured and NEMLEC SWAT was called in to assist with the building search. After several hours of an area search, as well as an extensive search of the Parish, no suspect was located. Medford Detectives will be working in conjunction with Cambridge Police to determine if there is any connection to the two incidents
