Somerville Board of Aldermen to Become City Council

On January 31, Somerville’s Board of Aldermen will officially be renamed the Somerville City Council. The process of becoming the City Council started last year when Alderman-at-Large Bill White requested that the City seek permission from the state to change the name of the legislative body in its charter. The request made its way through the state legislature and was signed by Gov. Charlie Baker on January 1. Although the name is about to change, the work won’t. You can find out more about what the Board/Council does on the City website.
