Valerie was a very nice lady with many ties to this city who will be sadly missed here in Somerville.

Valerie M. (Long) Cooper, 69 of Derry, NH, died peacefully at her home in Derry, surrounded by her loving family. Valerie was born in Milton, MA, grew up and was educated in Newton, MA. She received her bachelor’s degree from Fitchburg State and her MBA from Rivier College. She was a resident of Derry for over 46 years.
Valerie was a prominent real estate developer and CFO for Cooper Homes Inc. in Derry, NH. She was a member of the NH Association of Realtors, past officer for the NH Builders Association and an avid fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She was also very active in the Marco Island, FL community. She enjoyed reading, playing mahjong, cooking, painting, and most of all; she loved to be with her family.
She leaves her husband John R. Cooper of Derry, NH; two children, Mark Cooper of Derry, NH, and Erin Smith of Salem, NH; eight siblings, William Long of Irvine, CA, Francis Long of West Newbury, MA, Robert Long of Norwell, MA, Susanne McInerney of Weston, MA, Mary-Jeanne Kuehn of Tustin, CA, Madelynne Mahoney of Bridgewater, MA, Jacquelynne Starrak of Naples FL, and Virginia Martins of Southborough, MA; five grandchildren, Kristopher Kyriakides, Ashley Cooper, Mandi Cooper, Corrie Smith, and Andy Smith; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Valerie was the daughter of the late John and Gervaise (Kelley) Long. She was also predeceased by her sister Gervaise Haley.
Valerie was known and loved for her wonderful sense of humor, lively spirit, and her ability to touch the lives of all who knew her.
Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours on Tuesday, June 26th, 2018 from 3-7 PM at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Rd, Windham, NH.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, June 27th at 10 AM at St. Matthew’s Church, 2 Searles Rd, Windham, NH. Cremation will follow.
