Real Life Somerville Police Stories: Ailton ORNELAS (B&E, Poss B) & SPD Warrant

On 5/26/2018, I, Officer Steven Scrugli and Officer Joseph Rivera, which were assigned to patrol East-1 responded with Officer Patrick Canty East-4 to xx Sydney Street for a report of a breaking and entering. The reporting person stated that a man entered a building that is under construction through the left rear side door.

On Thursday, May 24, 2018, at 11:28 A.M., while travelling West on Broadway, I randomly queried the license plate of the vehicle directly in front of my cruiser (RI registration xxxx). The results showed that the vehicle was stolen out of Providence RI  ORI/RI0040900.

On 05/28/2018, I, Officer Steven Scrugli and Officer Shaun Clark assigned to patrol unit East-4 responded to Home Depot 75 Mystic Ave. for a report of shoplifting and return fraud by a suspect known to Home Depot loss prevention. Also responding were Officer Patrick Canty and Officer Ariel Collazo.

APPROVAL BILL PASSED TO APPEAL PARKING TICKET FOR “ILLEGALLY” PARKING IN A HANDICAPPED SPACE

The House gave initial approval to a bill that allows people who legally utilize a handicap placard or license plate to challenge, without a fee, a finding that he or she parked illegally in a handicap space. Current law requires the payment of a fee to have the matter heard by the city or town’s parking clerk.

HOUSE APPROVES LOCAL OPTION FOR A NEIGHBORHOOD CAN BAN TOGETHER AND FORM A DISTRICT WITH TAXING POWER

The House 149-2, approved and sent to the Senate a local option bill allowing a city or town to authorize the creation of community benefit districts which would permit owners of contiguous property in a city or town to form a district and impose taxes to pay for additional services, improvements, events and other projects and activities within the district. The districts would be operated by a nonprofit board.

Somerville Committee Members Appointed to the Appointments Advisory Committee

$8.2 Million for Affordable Housing, Open Space and Historic Preservation Projects

The Somerville Board of Aldermen has authorized $8.2 million in Community Preservation Act funding. This money will pay for open-space and historic preservation projects at Dilboy Field, Blessing of the Bay Park, the Somerville Community Growing Center, the Elizabeth Peabody House, Prospect Hill Park and other locations.
