Somerville Officers Rescue Ducklings

Officers from Somerville Animal Control rescued six baby ducks on May 29. The ducklings had become trapped in a sewer catch basin near Home Depot and couldn’t get out, leaving mommy duck and a seventh duckling distraught. Based on photos and videos of the rescue effort, posted on the Somerville Police Department’s Facebook page, officers lowered a basket into the catch basin and hoisted the duckings to safety. Officers then escorted the reunited ducks as they waddled toward the Mystic River. Fowl play was not suspected.
