Did you know that around 75% of pedestrians cross the street in Davis Square when they’re not supposed to. It’s not the safest choice, but with long gaps between walk signals we understand why it’s been happening.
Later this month we’ll be changing the pedestrian and traffic signal timing to a pattern that should make getting through the square easier for everyone. Pedestrians will see more walk signals, drivers and cyclists will have more green line time, and MBTA buses coming out of the busway will see fewer delays.
To help keep everyone safe, pedestrians should get in the habit of waiting for the walk signal to come up and drivers need to be alert and yield to pedestrians. You can find out more about the signal timing changes on the City’s website.
