Carnaval is a lively street festival that celebrates East Somerville. Broadway will be closed to traffic from McGrath Highway to Pennsylvania Avenue, making room for live music on two stages, with sounds from El Salvador, Brazil, Senegal, Haiti, and elsewhere. Local restaurants will provide food from cultures around the world. Other fun things include a flea and artisan market, circus acts, Lego building, face painting, and a bouncy house. Carnaval is part of the SomerStreets festival series, which encourages physical activity and reconnecting with neighborhoods. Carnaval is on Sunday, June 3, from 2 to 6 p.m. The rain date is June 10.
