Joe Curtatone:Tragic loss last week with the news of Ken Kelly’s passing

It’s a horrible loss for his wife and children, who deserved decades more time with him. It’s also a huge loss for Somerville.

Ken played a key role in the revitalization of Union Square. As a mayor you can make all the grandiose plans you want, but someone still has to put their money and sweat equity on the line to make it happen.

Ken believed in Somerville’s promise back before it was cool to believe in Somerville.

What Ken Kelly did for Somerville is indispensable. We would not be the city we are today without him.
