Ward 2 News and Updates

Greetings to folks in Ward 2!

It’s been a long cold winter but we are finally feeling a little bit of spring. With so much brewing in Ward 2 and throughout the city, I get the feeling it’s going to be a productive summer.
Many large projects are in the works in our neighborhood: planning Union Square’s future, redesigning Lincoln Park, the Green Line Extension, and Beacon Street reconstruction. Ward 2 is central to Somerville’s future. It’s so important that you know about the issues affecting the future of this city and have a say in what that future looks like. So stay active, participate, and let me know how I can best represent your interests.

And while there are a lot of big development issues affecting our community, don’t forget those small quality of life issues. These can make each day great or not so great.

Let’s fix what needs fixing in Ward 2. Contact me directly, or give 311 a call for things like:

Traffic and Parking problems
Run down/problem properties
Street lights not working
Double utility poles
I have been working with the city on a lot of projects for Ward 2 and the rest of Somerville. In an effort to curb the area’s rodent problem, we got the waste transfer station in Brickbottom demolished last fall. With a lot of help from the community we completed the Quincy Street Park project, creating a wooded oasis in the middle of the city. Stop by and check it out if you haven’t already. Concrete strides have been made toward bringing the Green Line to Union Square. The Union Square Green Line station is nearing the end of the design process. Finally, with your vocal support McGrath Highway has seen a lot of improvements and we got a commitment from Mass DOT to accelerate the depression of the overpass.
