Rita L. (Smith) Ciarletto – Of Somerville, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, August 25, 2025. She was 91 years old.
Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Mary (William) Smith.
Rita was a devoted family woman who found her greatest joy in spending time with her children and especially her grandchildren. When surrounded by them, her heart felt whole. She was known for bringing fun and laughter to family gatherings: whether it was a spirited game of Yahtzee, cards, or another board game, Rita was always ready to test her luck. If there was even the chance to win a dollar, she was sure to join in with a smile. She also enjoyed bingo and cherished trips to the casino, where her playful spirit shone through.
Beloved wife of the late Edward G. Ciarletto.
Devoted mother of Edward M. Ciarletto of Somerville, Christine DeSilvio and her husband Nicholas of Chelmsford, Catherine Freitas and her late husband Nicholas of Chelmsford, and Debra Ciarletto of Somerville. Cherished grandmother of Amanda Ciarletto, Jennifer Ciarletto, Frank DeSilvio, Nicholas DeSilvio, Dominic DeSilvio, Katelyn DeSilvio, Kristie Ann Cristy, Jacob Freitas and Cidalia Freitas. Loving sister of Joseph Smith and George Smith and 7 late siblings. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Calling Hours will be held in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville on Saturday, August 30th from 9:00AM to 10:30AM. Followed by a prayer service in the funeral home at 10:30AM.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Services will conclude with burial at St. Michael Cemetery, Boston.
