Obituary
David Meichle passed away unexpectedly January 31, 2025 at the age of 37. He is survived by his parents, Linda Barton, and Michael Meichle (Kathy), brother John Meichle (Stacy), niece Isabelle Meichle, grandmother Lois Barton, uncles Kim Meichle and Mark Barton (Patricia), aunts Deborah Meichle Brucker (Tom), Sonja Meichle Johnson (Dave), and various cousins.
Dave was a research physicist who earned his PhD at University of Maryland, after completing his undergraduate physics training at Lawrence University. He worked for several companies in the Cambridge-Somerville area from 2015 to the present. He loved technical challenges and reveled in high end instrumentation design for new technologies.
David loved music passionately. He studied the french horn at the Lawrence University Conservatory. He adored playing the horn in any situation; he was active in several orchestras and brass ensembles in the Boston metro area. Music was, in many ways, his greatest source of joy. He felt a deep connection to the music, and to the musicians he shared it with.
An avid traveler, Dave embraced adventure. He was a lifelong sailor. He grew up sailing in the Great Lakes, and later sailed his cherished small sailboat Dolce in the Boston and Cape Cod area. By plane, he traveled to China, Japan, Germany, Austria, Abu Dhabi, Jordan, Peru, Switzerland, and all over Europe and the United States. Always a dreamer, Dave had a deep desire to learn to fly, and he spent countless hours in flight simulators. Dave also enjoyed ice skating and played hockey.
There will be a celebration of his life in Boston at George Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway, Somerville, MA, on March 16 from 1-4 PM. This summer, his ashes will be scattered in Rochester in a separate ceremony.
Donations in his memory can be made to Hochstein School of Music in Rochester, or to Lawrence University in Appleton WI
