ZAKWANI’S OBITUARY
Gibbs, Zakwani– Of Somerville, passed away unexpectedly on November 8, 2022. He was 23 years young.
Zak lived nearly all of his life inSomerville, Massachusetts, and was always a proud Villen. He is survived by his parents,Jocelyn and David Gibbs, by his sister, Ozma Gibbs, and by his girlfriend, Janelle “Nelli” Zayas,as well as by his grandparents Kay Carleton, Jack and Lydia Clemmons, and Janet Gibbs, as well a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins. His friends were his second family: Jonathan Walsh (deceased October 16, 2022), Sammy Eldeb, Zachary Correia, Brenna Evans, Anakin “Max” Smith, Austin Payzant, Dion Huguley, and Sira Clemmons, and others too numerous to list.
Zak loved life so much; he was always excited to try new things, to travel, to have adventures. He was a city kid through and through, but loved hiking, camping, and fishing as much as city life. He loved taking his sister to amusement parks, helping his friend Jonathan write, perform
and record raps, and his collection of kicks. He also had a keen sense of justice and would not hesitate to speak out when he saw unfairness or oppression in any form. He particularly loved working on cars, basketball, martial arts (Kung Fu, Krav Maga, and boxing), hip hop and music
in general, and his friends and family.
Calling Hours will be held at the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) on Thursday, November 17th from 4:00PM to 7:00PM.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
