Real Life Somerville Police Stories: Javier GONZALEZ-GARCIA (Larceny) (Fitchburg & Boston Warrants)

On Sunday, September 26, 2021, I, Officer Pavao, was assigned to marked unit East 2. I was dispatched, along with East 3, Officer Khoury, to 180 Somerville Ave (Target) to assist Loss Prevention stop a shoplifter.

Upon arrival, we were met outside by Ms. XXXX, Target Loss Prevention. Ms. XXXX stated that she observed a male putting merchandise into a duffel bag and a backpack. She advised officers they were about to exit the store. We walked over and stopped two Hispanic males, Mr. Javier Gonzalez-Garcia and Mr. XXXX, as they exited the store. I opened up the duffel bag that Mr. Gonzalez-Garcia was carrying and it was filled with numerous amounts of toiletries. We walked into the Loss Prevention office. I asked to look into Mr. XXXX backpack to which he handed it over. The backpack was also filled with toiletries. Ms. XXXX stated that Mr. Gonzalez-Garcia was the one that was putting items into both bags.

The final dollar amount of items that were stolen was $754.26. A photo of the receipts are attached. Ms. XXXX also stated that Mr. Gonzalez-Garcia has been in the store multiple other times and stolen items then.

Mr. Gonzalez-Garcia was placed under arrest for two outstanding warrants as well as Larceny Under $1200. I then requested #200, operated by Officer Taylor, to transport Mr. Gonzalez-Garcia back to Somerville Police Station to be booked in the usual manner by the shift commander Lieutenant Holland.

Respectfully submitted,

Officer Brian Pavao #318
Somerville Police Department
