William J. Barry, Sr. of Somerville was honored with a square dedication on the corner of Marion Street and Wyatt Street in his name on May 15th 2021.
Bill was a lifelong resident of Somerville; Born in Charlestown, he called Somerville his home from an early adolescent age where he lived on Marion Street with his parents, Catherine and Joseph Barry (House Est. 1943). Bill attended and graduated from Somerville schools before entering the U.S. Navy where he served honorably from December 2nd 1952 – December 1st, 1960 during the Korean War. One of the original founding members of the Somerville City Club, he was a proud Irish Catholic gentleman and a friend to many. He married his wife, Florence, on September, 12th 1959. Where they raised their 5 children Joseph, William Jr., Patricia, Susan and Michael in the same house Bill grew up on Marion Street. Bill Barry also has 6 grandchildren who are very proud of this honor for their Papa – Jonathan Barry, Kayla and John Foscarota and Callie, Caden and Cameron Barry.
